Special Need for a book on library management!

I do not have a technical background on running a public library and although I seem to be doing fine at the moment, I know I will be able to do better with more understanding on how to do things.

If you have any book on the subject, you may like to send it over.

Moreover, I found this book for sale online. It has good reviews and it only costs $50.

Books, Magazines, Audio-Visuals, etc...

Do you have books in dozens which are just gathering dust in your homes? You might want to consider giving these to the library. Or even just one or two books. It does not have to be in bulk. Every title counts. All kinds of books are okay, as long as they are good literature. Please also be informed that all materials sent will be screened whether they are fit for circulation and for their proper subject classification. If you have very good old magazine issues, you can also contribute those. The Reader's Digest old issues from one book donor are among the most read.

Presently, ACL (awagoh christian library) has four christian movies and a few sunday school songs for children in CDs. Movies and CDs will be lent for church/home use. It would be wonderful if you can add to the list. They need to be original. Thank you.

How to Help Financially

There are two ways which you can help.

1) Create a group.

You need to become a member first, then sell the vision to five people. When they sign up as members your group will be able to raise 300 pesos, including your fee. The annual fee is 50 pesos and renewable every year. This will go to the 'literacy funds' together with the monthly pledge from the person who gives a monthly pledge of 500 pesos. I intend to use this for literacy related activities. At the moment we have 1,650 pesos; 150 pesos which I received from Jun's group (a cousin) last month, and 1,500 pesos as the three-month worth pledge of the person I mentioned. I was able to receive a total of 500 pesos in registration fees before October 2009 and this was used as a contribution for the construction of the first cabinet shelves and claiming of boxes from the post office.

Your group can do the following:

a) Promote the library to your friends and family

b) Facilitate donations of books to the library

c) Borrow books through our long distance system circulation. The list of available books is posted online and your members can tell you what to borrow and you can email me. I can arrange the checking out of books and the duration period of the borrowing. Presently we have five active areas; Cauayan, Kabankalan, Bacolod, Iloilo and Cebu . Groups are being organized more in the said areas.

d) Form a book club and then start a discussion online and let other groups participate in the discussion

e) Volunteer as a group or send a representative in the library's literacy campaigns.

Next year there will be outreach activities in the upland villages ie story telling for children, English classes, IECs and classes on special skills.

f) In a much future time I am keen to hold a library day for all members.

2) You can choose to fund one specific need which I will itemize.

These are the urgent needs for the rest of this year.
